Teens who escaped from police, stole officer's weapon on way to juvenile detention center captured

I wrote this story with contributing reporting by my colleague Jianna Cousin, who confirmed and gathered information from the Jenkins and Burke County Sheriff offices. This story details two juveniles who escaped from police while being transported to a youth detention center in Augusta, Georgia. After a long search both teens were back in custody after allegedly knocking out a deputy.

Artist paying tribute to 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' author with sculpture

I wrote this story about a local Northeast Florida artist, Brenda Councill, creating a sculpture in Memory of Harriet Beecher Stowe, the author of "Uncle Tom's Cabin," with the first life-sized sculpture in her honor. She hopes her piece is a vehicle for educating about Stowe and her contributions as an Abolitionist and Activist in Mandarin, Florida.

Memory of Samuel J. Bush, Black man lynched by mob, honored by family, activists

I wrote this article detailing the work of activists and the city of Decatur, Illinois, honoring the life of Samuel J. Bush. Bush, a 30-year-old Black man from Mississippi, was tragically lynched by a mob over 130 years ago in the town of Mount Zion, Illinois. With the help of local organizations like Walk It Like We Talk It and Affordable Activism, his great nephew Vernon Wimberly is helping bring his story to light.
